Best-selling author Zoë Sharp joins us in this episode of CrimeFiction.FM to discuss her compelling Charlie Fox series. New US editions of the first eight books in the series are being re-released in America this week, coinciding with Zoë’s appearance as one of two International Guests of Honor at this week’s Bouchercon Conference in North Carolina. The latest book in the Fox series is DIE EASY.
Zoë shares the story her protagonist, Charlie Fox and her decision to craft a character who evolves over the life of the series. Charlie is quite capable of taking care of herself and those in her charge, while not sacrificing her feminity.
Zoë explains her love of research and why she leaves most of it out when writing her books.
We discuss the fascinating journey the series has taken here in the United States. The most recent news is that New York publishing house, Felony and Mayhem is re-releasing the backlist at Bouchercon.
We discuss Zoë’s event in New York on October 12th, with fellow thriller author and good friend, Lee Child.
From the Publisher:
Charlie Fox was no good at being the nice girl her parents wanted, so she joined Her Majesty’s military and acquired a new set of skills. Now she puts them to use teaching self-defense to battered women in a refuge – passing on the finer points of roundhouse kicks, running like hell, and breaking a cheekbone when necessary. Her skills come in even handier when she takes a job working security at the New Adelphi, a hot new club with an enigmatic owner. And they come in handiest of all when a rapist appears to be targeting the women at the refuge, and someone with a very nasty line in knife-work starts stalking Charlie’s friends.
Killer Instinct is the novel in which Zoe Sharp first introduced Charlie Fox to the world; as Lee Child writes in the foreword, Charlie “wasn’t like anyone I knew…but she was someone I would want to know, and she felt like she could show up around the next corner.”
